ERP built-in AI or your own agent: when each one fits
If your operation lives in a single ERP and orders are simple, the system's own WhatsApp or AI module is usually enough and is the simplest option. Your own agent pays off when you need several systems at once, business rules, orders by voice, photo or PDF, or for the code and data to stay in your account.

ERP module versus your own agent
| Criterion | ERP module | Own agent |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Fast: it comes integrated. | 1 week of discovery and 2 to 3 weeks to production. |
| Systems covered | That ERP. | Several at once: ERP, spreadsheets, CRM, in-house systems. |
| Business rules | Whatever the module lets you configure. | Custom: minimums by area, discounts, blocks. |
| Voice, photo, PDF | Depends on the module. | Designed around your orders. |
| Ownership | The ERP vendor. | Code, data and deployment in your account. |
A practical rule
Try the ERP's module first if you have one. If after a few weeks it falls short (orders it doesn't understand, a second system it can't query, a rule it can't apply), that's when your own agent justifies the investment. Taking a simple order on WhatsApp is already sold as a package; what stays valuable is deep integration.
